Are you an affiliate marketer looking to drive more traffic to your offers without breaking the bank? Look no further! In this article, I’ll be unveiling the best free traffic sources for affiliate marketing.
Any experienced marketer will tell you that traffic to your web properties is crucial if you want to generate leads, get sales, or build an online tribe. There’s no point in having a website or products to sell if no one sees them.
3 Types of Web Traffic
There are generally 3 types of traffic:
-
Free Traffic
Free traffic is usually organic and a result of posting content/value online. It doesn’t require any financial investment/risk… but it requires considerable time and consistent effort for you to see results.
While it’s much harder to get targeted traffic, in the long run, free traffic is more sustainable. You’ll front load all your work and once your content is generating traffic on autopilot, you can relax a little because the traffic will keep coming in, for a while anyway.
-
Paid Traffic
Like its name suggests, paid traffic requires you to invest in advertising such as social media ads, native ads, search engine ads, solo ads and so on. While paid traffic is a lot faster and will provide you with feedback on whether your offers are converting or not, there is a learning curve here.
You’ll need to spend time figuring out which ads convert, and you’ll have to streamline your campaigns until they’re profitable. Time is money here – so it’s more stressful. You want to be in the green as soon as possible. The plus points with paid traffic are that they’re far more targeted and scalable.
-
Email Traffic
Ah, the third type of traffic – the traffic you “own.” This is the crème de la crème of traffic. Email marketing is like sending love letters to your subscribers, except instead of swooning over your words, they swoon over your irresistible offers.
And if you can shower them with value every time you reach out, they’ll be like putty in your hands. You’ll have a relationship so strong, it’ll make Romeo and Juliet look like casual acquaintances. Email marketing is by far the most effective form of internet marketing, but keep in mind this is something you will need to build over time. Typically, from the first two traffic methods I just discussed. You don’t want to buy emails.
Why Should You Focus on Free Traffic?
Most beginners to online marketing tend to be on a tight budget. In situations like these, free traffic is the more logical choice. Furthermore, you’ll become much more proficient at online marketing when you’re in the trenches learning how to make free traffic work.
Let’s assume that you specialize in paid traffic such as Facebook ads.
You may be very good at it, but what if Facebook decides to shut down your business manager on a whim?
This happens all the time… and often, they don’t even bother telling the advertiser what he/she did wrong. Now the marketer is left stranded and needs to scramble.
They have no free traffic knowledge or experience – and their business will take a hit, until they sort the matter out.
Beginner marketers who are just starting out don’t need these hassles. So it’s best to first learn free traffic – and when you’re doing well with it, you can start learning and profiting with paid traffic.
At least now, you’ll have a free traffic safety net to catch you should any of the paid advertising platforms ban you because you unknowingly flouted one of their ambiguous rules.
Below, I’m showing you 12 methods that are proven to work. You don’t want to be wasting your time and effort on methods that are unreliable. So, let’s begin!
1. SEO
When it comes to driving free traffic to your affiliate marketing website, search engine optimization (SEO) should be at the top of your list.
One effective SEO strategy to focus on is keyword research and optimization. By carefully selecting keywords that are relevant to your niche and having a high search volume, but low competition, you can increase your chances of ranking higher in search engine results pages (SERPs).
Additionally, optimizing your website’s content with these keywords will help search engines understand what your site is all about, and drive you targeted organic traffic.
Another important aspect of SEO is link building. Building a strong network of quality backlinks from reputable websites not only boosts your website’s credibility but also improves its visibility in SERPs.
Instead of solely focusing on getting links from any source available, try to connect with influential bloggers or industry leaders who have a similar target audience as yours.
When they mention or link back to your website in their content, it signals trustworthiness to both users and search engines.
By providing valuable content tailored to specific keywords and acquiring quality backlinks from authoritative sources, you will improve your organic rankings and attract targeted visitors without spending a dime on advertising.
2. X (formerly Twitter)
Twitter while it’s changed its name to “X“, is still a fantastic source of traffic for affiliates as it uses the power of x’s (formerly retweets). Try to follow me here… When someone shares your x’s or tweet, it exposes your content to their followers, significantly increasing your reach.
This viral aspect of X can result in exponential growth in terms of traffic generation.
Additionally, by utilizing relevant hashtags and participating in trending discussions, affiliate marketers can get more eyes on their x’s and increase the chances of generating quality traffic that converts into sales.
The key here is to find X accounts in your niche that have a large and engaged following. By partnering with these influencers, you can promote your affiliate products or services through sponsored tweets or shoutouts, allowing you to tap into their loyal fan base and drive targeted traffic to your affiliate links.
Another effective strategy is to use x Twitter cards. These are a powerful tool that allows you to create visually appealing tweets with rich media such as images, videos, or audio clips.
By incorporating compelling visuals along with your affiliate links in the x Twitter cards, you increase the chances of grabbing people’s attention and enticing them to click on your promotions. This can lead to higher conversion rates and more commissions in your pocket.
Last but not least, take the time to build relationships with your followers by interacting with their x’s, retweeting valuable content related to your niche, and participating in relevant conversations and X chats.
By building trust and establishing yourself as an authority figure within your industry, people are more likely to view you as a trustworthy source when it comes time for them to make a purchasing decision based on your recommendations.
3. Instagram
Instagram has emerged as a powerhouse in the world of social media, and for affiliate marketers, it presents an incredible opportunity to drive traffic and generate sales.
The visual nature of Instagram allows affiliates to showcase their offerings in a visually appealing way, capturing the attention of potential buyers.
Unlike other social media platforms, Instagram’s algorithm does not prioritize content from friends and family. Instead, it focuses on displaying content that is most relevant and engaging to individual users.
This means that as an affiliate marketer, you have a higher chance of your content being seen by your target audience.
By using popular hashtags and engaging with relevant communities, you can attract potential customers who are actively searching for products or services similar to what you are promoting.
Furthermore, Instagram’s latest features like shoppable posts and swipe up links in stories make it easier than ever for affiliate marketers to directly monetize their efforts without relying solely on directing users to external websites.
These features allow followers to easily purchase products with just a few taps on their screen or get redirected straight towards landing pages where they can complete their purchases seamlessly. This reduces friction in the buying process and increases conversion rates significantly.
4. Pinterest
Pinterest is a powerful tool for driving traffic to any affiliate marketing website.
Unlike other social media platforms, where posts can quickly get lost in the feed, Pinterest pins have a longer lifespan and can continue driving traffic long after they are posted.
One of the key reasons why Pinterest is such a great source of traffic for affiliate marketing is its highly engaged user base. People use Pinterest to discover new ideas, products, and inspiration.
This means that when they come across a pin that catches their interest, they are more likely to click on it and explore further.
By creating visually appealing pins that provide valuable information or solutions to people’s problems, affiliates can easily grab the attention of potential customers and direct them towards their website.
Another advantage of using Pinterest as a traffic source for affiliate marketing is its strong search engine capabilities. When users enter keywords into the search bar on Pinterest, they are presented with relevant pins based on those keywords.
This means that by optimizing your pins with relevant keywords related to your niche or products you promote as an affiliate marketer, you can increase your chances of getting discovered by users actively searching for what you have to offer.
5. LinkedIn
LinkedIn provides a vast audience of potential customers that are actively seeking valuable information and solutions.
Unlike other social media platforms, LinkedIn users are in a professional mindset, making them more receptive to business-related content and promotions.
Affiliate marketers can create highly targeted campaigns based on factors such as industry, job title, company size, and more.
This allows them to reach their ideal audience and increase the chances of driving qualified leads to their affiliate offers.
By leveraging LinkedIn’s content marketing strategies like sharing informative articles or starting engaging discussions in relevant groups, affiliate marketers can tap into a consistent stream of high-quality traffic that has the potential for conversions.
Start by building a strong network of professionals in your chosen niche. Connect with potential customers, industry experts, and influencers to expand your reach and establish credibility.
Once you’ve built a solid network, create valuable content that resonates with your audience. Share informative articles, industry insights, and helpful tips related to the products or services you’re promoting.
By providing value upfront without asking for anything in return, you can foster trust among your connections and position yourself as an authority in your field.
Another powerful method on LinkedIn is by leveraging groups within the platform. Join relevant industry-specific groups where potential customers are likely to hang out.
Engage actively by commenting on discussions and offering helpful advice or solutions whenever appropriate.
Once you’ve established rapport within these communities, subtly promote your affiliate products or services in a non-pushy manner through occasional recommendations or testimonials.
By leveraging the professional nature of LinkedIn along with targeted networking strategies and thoughtful content creation tactics, affiliates can tap into this enormous platform’s potential for generating revenue effectively.
6. Reddit
What sets Reddit apart from other social media platforms is its emphasis on anonymity and authenticity.
Users come to Reddit for honest discussions, advice, and recommendations, making it the perfect place to promote affiliate products in a way that resonates with the community.
One of the key reasons why Reddit is such a perfect source of traffic for affiliate marketing is its highly engaged user base.
Unlike platforms like Facebook or X where users passively scroll through their feeds, Redditors actively participate in discussions and upvote content they find valuable.
By leveraging this engagement and offering helpful insights or recommendations related to your niche, you can establish yourself as an authority within the community while subtly promoting your affiliate links.
However, it’s important to approach Reddit with caution. Redditors value authenticity and despise blatant self-promotion.
Therefore, it’s crucial to contribute genuinely to the community before placing any affiliate links. Take the time to understand each subreddit’s rules and culture, participate in discussions without being promotional, and build trust within the community.
Another way to monetize your presence on Reddit is by offering valuable content through a blog or website. By driving traffic from relevant subreddits to your own platform, you can leverage this audience further by recommending products or services through your affiliate links.
This method allows you to provide more information about the products or services you’re promoting and establish yourself as an authority in your niche.
Remember that building relationships and fostering trust is crucial on Reddit if you want long-term success as an affiliate marketer.
7. Facebook Groups
Of the 12 methods in this article, this is the easiest one and yields the fastest and most profitable results.
First, you’ll need to join Facebook groups which are in your niche.
Second, you’ll need to build a landing page with a page builder such as OptimizePress, LeadPages, etc. Then you’ll need to offer a freebie encouraging people to sign up.
Add the link (to your landing page) in your Facebook Profile.
One important point to note: When using free traffic, most of your links should point to your landing page. You’re building a list of email subscribers. Even with free traffic, there are risks involved because you’re building your house on rented land.
Should Facebook restrict your activity or ban you, at least you’ll have your email list, which is the one asset you truly own.
Once that’s all set up, you’ll need to join a few Facebook groups that are closely related to the niche you’re in.
When choosing a group, it must have lots of active members and there should be several posts a day. You’ll want to avoid small groups or groups that are ‘dead’ and have no activity.
When you join a few of these groups, you’ll want to be active and contribute value on a regular basis. For the first month or two, do NOT make any promotional posts. Just be of service. You reap what you sow.
The more value you provide, the more the members in the group will look up to you. Several will get curious and click on your profile and check out the posts on your wall.
It goes without saying that you should also be making value-driven posts on your wall (regarding your niche) too. Add your blog posts, social media posters, etc. And in each post, have a link to your landing page. These links will get clicks and subscribers.
Once you have a reputation in the group, you can slowly friend requests 1 or 2 people from these groups. Don’t go beyond that. Many of these folk will accept your requests.
Now the posts on your wall will appear on their feed… and they’ll see your links and might join your email list to download the freebie.
Always remember: When you’re engaging in other people’s Facebook groups, you never want to appear that you’re there just to sell/promote items. You’ll be shut down by the admins/moderators in no time – maybe even booted out of the group/s. Proceed with caution.
Once you have enough Facebook friends on your list (who are interested in your niche), you may create your own group and invite them to join it. Keep providing value and you’ll have loyal members for a long time to come.
8. YouTube
This is another fantastic free traffic generation method. Be aware this method may take a lot of work.
The earlier tip about creating a landing page applies here too. The difference here is that you’ll add the link to your landing page in the video descriptions and in your channel profile.
YouTube doesn’t really frown upon promotional links. So, you have a lot more leeway, but you don’t want to go overboard.
Now let’s talk about the best way to generate traffic with YouTube videos… The answer is simple – video tutorials.
Most niches have people who have problems. If you’re in the online marketing space, people may have tech issues such as setting up a blog, etc.
By creating tutorial videos showing them how to do it, you’ll build a loyal following and get tons of views. You’ll want to use a tool like VidIQ to help you target the right keywords, tags and so on.
But the most important point – you must produce good videos that help your viewers.
Even if you’re in the puppy niche, a video sharing tips on how to potty train a puppy will be very helpful to millions of viewers.
If you’re in the fitness niche, showing people how to curl a dumbbell so that they can build a peak in their biceps will get tons of views too.
People come on YouTube for information and entertainment. Make sure your videos do both.
Some people may be hesitant to show their face in their videos. This is mostly a mental hurdle – and you’ll be surprised that once you get past it, you’ll do it with ease.
People just want information. They’re not looking for someone with movie star good looks…
And here’s the best part, even movie stars do live videos every now and then to engage with their fans, and a lot of the times, they have no make up on and look like average people. If they can do it, so can you.
The world is a better place with you in it – and if you have value to share, you should do it with pride.
But if you’re still hesitant, you can use tools like Camtasia to create these videos without showing your face. Faceless videos can get millions of views too.
Do a search for “nature scenery” and you’ll see videos that have 21 million views.
So, you don’t really need to show your face to get traffic with YouTube. – though it does help to build a connection with your audience. You definitely want to use this powerful video platform to drive traffic to your landing pages, offers, etc.
9. TikTok
TikTok is not just a platform to showcase your dance moves or lip-syncing skills; it’s also an untapped goldmine for affiliate marketers.
It’s emphasis on short-form videos enables instant gratification for viewers seeking quick entertainment or information consumption.
This makes it easier for affiliates to capture the attention of busy users scrolling through endless feeds by delivering concise yet compelling messages about their products or services all within seconds.
The fast-paced nature of TikTok also encourages higher engagement rates as audiences are more likely to watch an entire video rather than skimming through lengthy posts on other platforms.
First, choose the right niche. TikTok has its own unique audience with specific interests and preferences, so it’s crucial to identify a niche that aligns with the platform’s trends.
Next, build a strong following by consistently posting high-quality videos that resonate with your niche target audience.
Captions matter too – use persuasive call-to-actions and incorporate relevant hashtags to increase visibility.
Engage with your viewers through comments and direct messages, fostering connections and building trust.
Once you have established yourself on TikTok, you can start including affiliate links in your video descriptions or captions.
One key advantage of TikTok is its algorithm, which promotes new content from creators who have little to no followers. This means that even those starting from scratch can quickly gain traction and reach various target audiences.
Additionally, the platform’s Discover feature helps users discover new accounts and brings more visibility to affiliate marketers looking to expand their reach.
By utilizing trendy hashtags and incorporating captivating content strategies, TikTok affiliate sensations can effectively draw in potential customers and generate substantial traffic for their affiliate offers.
10. Quora Marketing
Quora is one of the hottest question-and-answer sites on the planet. Using this platform is really simple. All you need to do is sign up and start answering people’s questions – but even here, there are a few pointers you should be aware of.
- Never use affiliate links on Quora
- Do not add any links for your first 50 posts (minimum)
- From your 51st post, you may add one link for every 5 posts
- From your 70th post, you may add one link for every 3 posts
- Once you’ve hit 90 posts, you may add a link in every post. Then go back to all your earlier posts which had no links and add 1 link to each post. Only edit one post a day.
You’ll want to answer both new questions and older questions which have a high follower count. Aim to answer 3-5 questions a day. Don’t overdo it.
When you’re on Quora, your goal should be to stick with it for 6-12 months. Go slow but be consistent. Over time, the traffic will snowball.
As always, link to your landing page whenever possible. But you can link to blog posts, Facebook groups, your YouTube channel and so on too.
11. Websites & Forums
Forum marketing is a powerful tool for driving traffic to your affiliate marketing campaigns… However, simply joining forums and spamming links will NOT get you results.
It is important to first establish yourself as a valuable contributor by actively engaging in discussions and providing helpful information.
By building a reputation as an expert in your niche, you’ll naturally attract interested readers who will be more likely to visit your website or landing page.
To maximize your benefits, it is crucial to choose the right forums that cater specifically to your niche and are actively involved in conversations related to the products or services you’re promoting.
One tactic that often goes unnoticed is leveraging forum signatures. Most forums allow users to add a custom signature at the end of their posts, which can include links back to their website or landing page.
By crafting a compelling call-to-action within your signature and contributing valuable content consistently, you’ll entice readers to visit your site out of curiosity or interest in learning more about you.
It’s essential, however, not to overdo it – focus on being genuine and offering value rather than solely self-promoting.
Overall, when done correctly, forum marketing can be an effective way to generate free targeted traffic for your marketing efforts.
12. Affiliates
Using affiliates to drive traffic to your offers might seem like a free way to generate traffic. But if you stopped to think about it, considering the fact that you may be paying 50% to 75% of your sales (digital products) to affiliates – that actually makes it the most expensive form of traffic generation.
The difference here is that you’re not paying them with cash up front but letting them take a cut from each sale they generate. If you’re a beginner with no email list, you might have no choice but to convince reputable affiliates to support you.
Using good affiliates to promote your offers is one of the fastest ways to make money online and build an email list of buyers at the same time.
You’ll need to network with these affiliates by promoting them or buying their products first. Reach out to them on social media and get to know them. Don’t be a pest – but just be within their periphery.
When you’ve spent time building a friendship with them, they’ll be more likely to support your product launches.
Using affiliates is a ‘free’ way to generate traffic to your sales pages – but it’s not ideal for landing pages and so on… Nevertheless, with the first 11 methods above, you’ll be more than capable of building a tribe of followers.
From there, you can create your own products and use affiliates in your promotions.
While free methods take time and effort, they will pay dividends many times over in future. So invest some time daily to drive free traffic to your business.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is clear that exploring different free traffic sources for affiliate marketing can greatly benefit your business.
One key takeaway from this article is the importance of diversifying your traffic sources. Relying on only one or two channels can limit your reach and growth potential.
By leveraging a mix of strategies, you can tap into new audiences and increase your chances of attracting relevant traffic that converts into sales.
Additionally, keep in mind that not all free traffic sources will yield immediate results. Some methods may require patience and consistent effort to see significant traction.
Don’t get discouraged if you don’t witness overnight success – keep experimenting with different tactics, track your results, and optimize accordingly.
Remember, there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to driving free traffic. It’s all about understanding your target audience’s preferences and behavior while staying adaptable in a constantly evolving digital landscape.
By implementing the right strategies tailored to your niche market and consistently delivering valuable content or promotions through various free traffic sources, you’ll be well on your way to maximizing conversions and achieving long-term success.
